iRemote Roadmap

Mobile area (as native environment for iRemote project) dictates two different directions of extension and development. The fact that wireless market is highly fragmented assumes the need in supporting various platforms. It is defacto standard to support at least iOS and Android at launch. This has significant influence on project architecture and development approach.  From another point of view, high level of competition in the field requires continuous work on feature set improvement. In bounds of iRemote project there is an extra direction, which is related to platform (core) development. This process goes simultaneously with all other activities. The process of iRemote development is iterative. Each etaration is dedicated to either feature set update or next mobile/desktop OS support.

iRemote passed through the following major phases since project launch back in 2009:

  • iPhone application / Windows support.
  • Mac OS support.
  • iPhone feature set update (shell access, screen zooming).
  • Android application.

Current map of features/platforms is illustrated below:

Schedule

iRemote platform is oriented on enterprise customers. Free client applications are intended to popularize platform and achieve higher quality level via increasing target audience - amount of product adopters. This causes the fact that huge amount of attention is paid to underlying technology and portability in contrast to application UI and sometimes even usability.

The list below is preliminary plan of iRemote development. Set of phases and the order are not final and are subject to change depending on various factors. The first two phases partially overlap each other in terms of project goals. It is likely that subtasks will flow between these phases in order to improve efficiency and speed up the development.

Phase 1. Platforms Expansion
